The closing session of this year’s Symposium on Democracy is entitled “Global Threats to Democracy” and will involve all attendees in an interactive exploration of the situation in the Ukraine. The 4 p.m. program in the Ballroom will begin with a virtual presentation by Nicole Bibbins Sedaca, Executive Vice President of Freedom House, the leading organization researching the state of freedom and democracy in the world. She will share her insights on why democracy matters and the global impact when democracies fail. Attendees will work with provided information to consider how they would advise the UN to address the situation.
Dr. Carolyn Campbell-Golden, W&J vice president and Fulbright Scholar, will facilitate the exercise.

Nicole Bibbins Sedaca
Nicole Bibbins Sedaca serves as the Executive Vice President of Freedom House, where she oversees the organization’s strategy and programs. Prior to joining Freedom House, Ms. Bibbins Sedaca served as the Deputy Director of Georgetown University’s Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) program, the Co-Chair for the Global Politics and Security Concentration, and a Professor in the Practice of International Affairs in MSFS.
