This breakout session aims to discuss the role of journalism and media literacy in fostering democratic citizenship. It will cover the vital importance of a free and independent press in fostering democracy, the role of media literacy in helping citizens critically evaluate information and participate in informed decision-making, the challenges facing journalism today (such as disinformation and the decline of traditional news sources), and ways for citizens to take an active role in supporting democracy through media literacy and informed participation in public life. Led by members of The Red & Black editorial board.
