February 22, 2023 @ 3:40 pm - 4:50 pm EST

Location: Burnett 102

American democracy is in a perilous time: political violence is increasing, politicians are using or unwilling to condemn antidemocratic rhetoric, and it seems like ordinary Americans cannot even agree on what is true and what is false. Are there ways to strengthen democratic accountability both for our politicians and among ourselves? This session will discuss the problems with democratic accountability that exist; brainstorm solutions or reforms that can start to fix some of these problems; and debate whether those solutions even exist. A roundtable discussion will be led by Joel Kersting.

This session Promoting Democratic Accountability in Politics & Society is offered as one of five concurrent breakout sessions.
